Our History

The Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies (Inc.) Antigua had a very humble beginning. It started under a coconut palm branch shed on Alfred Peters Street, Villa in the yard of a lady by the name of Mrs. Alley Browne. A few Pentecostal Christians immigrants from Monserrat led by Bro. James Rodney along with Mary Brade, Lucy Weeks and others met to worship God and preach the Pentecostal message. The work quickly grew and soon Bro. Rodney and his team were in need of help. They received help through Pastor John Morson from the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada's branch church in Monserrat, who pastored the church from 1943 – 1946 followed by other Canadian missionaries as well as local pioneer workers.

The assembly grew rapidly and moved from the coconut branch shed to Mannix Hall on Newgate Street, then after moving to various other locations they finally rested on Upper Bishopgate Street. The land which was owned by the Ross family was to be sold. The church paid a deposit of 10% of the cost price through the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. Erection of the church building started in August,1951 and was completed in October of that same year.

Reverend and Mrs. Piper who were then in leadership ordained six men and sent them into the fields to open out stations in Pigotts, English Harbour, Bethesda, Pares Village, New Field, Liberta, All Saints, Freeman's Village, Bendals, Crab Hill, Old Road and Kentish. These men were Bro. White, Bro. Winspear, Bro. Grear, Bro. Greenaway, Bro. Jeffers and Bro. Francis. When the Pipers left in 1954 they were succeeded by Rev. A. T Jacobson who served from 1952 –1961. During 1961 – 1965 the church was led by persons such as Marion Parkinson, Esther Kelsey, Rev. & Mrs. Jack Keys, Rev. Barker, Tommy Maginley and Rev. & Mrs. Marcus P. Roberts.

Reverend Peter Lee and his wife Mrs. Mariam Lee took up pastorate in January, 1965 . During his time in 1967 the church property was completely paid for, improvements were undertaken by way of repairs and a wing was added to the west of the original building. A new mission house was built in 1985 with assistance from Canada by way of labour. Rev. Lee's pastorate came to an end in early 1991. During this year assistance was given by Pastor Raymond Prosper, Bro. Hollis Henry and Bro. Everette Jonas. In 1992 Pastor Stephen Andrews who was then an evangelist and his wife Mrs. Lourdes Andrews came and in 1993 he was installed as pastor. The church has since then been growing by leaps and bounds, membership currently stands at 497. Presently the members are working on the new sanctuary being constructed in Woods Estate.

The Man

Reverend Stephen Andrews accepted Christ as his personal saviour and was born again at the age of 17. He immediately began ministering the word after conversion. On 30th March of 1991 Stephen Curtis Andrews married to Ms. Lourdes Franka Rodriguez. On the 8th of January 1993 this new family along with their first born, came to Antigua, where he is doing the work of God as an evangelist while still doing a powerful job of pastoring and mentoring lives along with his wife at SJPC House of Restoration Ministries.

No avenue is omitted in the spreading of St. John's Pentecostal Church Prophetic Message. Internet, Newspaper, Radio and Television; they are all utilized for the glory of God.

Our aim is to bring men, women and children out of darkness into the marvelous light of Jesus Christ. We continue to build for the express purpose of rendering divine service to mankind.

The Ministry {S.J.P.C House of Restoration Ministries}

When we talk about the Ministry of the St. John's Pentecostal Church, we are referring to the Spiritual Services that the Pastors, Leaders and Members render to the Society. Over the years, St. John's Pentecostal Church has always been an Evangelistic Church, with a very strong charismatic flavor. The members of yesteryear who are still with us, boast of the glory that fell in their days. The Gospel has always been preached without fear or reservation, and revival was often the theme.

Today it is even better. A lot of changes have taken place, but only for the better. Over the past eighteen years, under the leadership of Apostle Stephen Andrew, the body of members has grown exponentially! The flame of evangelism has never died; it only increased, especially because Apostle Andrews' first area of Ministry is Evangelism. The Church is governed by the Apostle, the Pastor (Lourdes Andrews), and a uniquely selected team of Elders, Deacons, Ministers and Departmental Directors. The ministry covers areas such as spiritual growth, family and marriage, evangelism and discipleship, worship, music and art productions.

Our Mission

3) Calling sons and daughters into ministry

Ephesians 4:14 Tthat we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.
